Load and performance testing

A system that works in testing can still fail under load. We find the limits of your system before month-end, a campaign or a timetable change reveals them.

When this fits

  • A new system goes live and must carry a known peak load.
  • Response times are getting worse and nobody knows where the bottleneck is.
  • A migration to the cloud or to a new platform is coming up.
  • Supervisors or internal audit require evidence of resilience.

Types of test

Load test
Behaviour at expected peak load, measured against agreed response times.
Stress test
Where is the limit, and how does the system behave beyond it?
Endurance test
Stability over hours and days, memory leaks and gradual degradation.
Spike test
Sudden jumps in load, for example during campaigns or system start-ups.
Scalability test
How much performance does additional hardware or cloud capacity bring?
